Stone’s fingerprints are all over his new venture, from the family photos decorating the restaurants’ walls to the share dishes made with the best Australian ingredients.

Together with the Princess culinary team, Stone spent two months perfecting Sun Princess’s menu because he wanted to “get it right for the Aussie market”. The chef’s top picks include roasted crab leg baked with lemongrass and chicharron powder, a Sun Princess exclusive; roast chicken served with charred bacon slab and rustic onion slaw; and six-minute butter poached lobster, only available on Emerald Princess.

The popularity of the celebrity chef signature restaurants on cruise liners recently popped up on Chanel 9 Current Affair featuring Curtis Stone.

debuts BLUES CRUISE | 4 nights | 10 June 2016

One thing I continually must remind myself is to never assume and isn’t it wonderful when you have your perceptions changed! Such was the case on my first cruise with P&O, I wasn’t expecting the Ritz, but was impressed by the roomy cabin, friendly staff, plus restaurant and quality entertainment program.

This 4 night cruise was P&O’s first ever blues cruise. They hadn’t advertise the blues line up, so was thrilled when we discovered on board some of Australia’s top blues acts; notably THE BONDI CIGARS, PJ O’BRIEN BAND including guitarist/singer Matt Ross, BLUE SHADDY from WA, LANA RITA BLUES BAND, Comedian/bluesman PETER GROSS & MICK MEREDITH and rock brain of the universe GLENN A BAKER who delivered a new dimension to the blues progam!

The program had each of these artists performing daily in concerts, jam sessions, quizzes, trivia and even ‘how to write a song in a under an hour’. The venues were varied from the exciting outside on-deck stage to the theatre and lounges. We danced, sang and enjoyed our music accompanied with delicious cocktails whilst lounging back in complete comfort (a rarity for any blues event). It was easy access to chat to the artists as we sailed up and down the New South Wales coast.

The whole weekend proved to be a ‘Blues Festival at Sea’ and went beyond with a program packed with onboard cruise activities such as beer and wine tastings, comedy shows, dancing lessons, health and fitness talks, game shows, big screen movies, craft, of course bingo, single mingles, spa and gym treats, shopping, host of sports thrills and did I mention FOOD. What a choice from 3 course a la carte in the more formal Waterfont Restaurant to the chic cafe bistro with over 8 cuisine bars. The choice and quality was impressive. The staff friendly with nothing ever a hassle. Best of all – it was included in the great value fare!

Bluesing with six friends, we treated ourselves to the celebrity restaurant on board – Luke Mangan’s Salt and even a massage in the popular Aqua health spa.

In reviewing the Bands, the premier BONDI CIGARS led the charge and by the end we were HOWLING AT THE MOON! (Their hit song). From WA, the blues/ roots/ country band BLUE SHADDY were quite a family affair with their rhythm driven originals and frantic and spellbinding harmonica man. PJ OBRIEN band featured with MATT ROSS in the line up – it was electric rocking blues at its best! New to me was the LANA RITA BLUES BAND (from The Voice) with her jazz soul blues voice performing mainstream blues and rock. Added to the line up were comedians plus rock brain and author  GLEN A BAKER – his funny stories of years on the road with famous musos never ceased to fascinate! On board there was also maintstream music covered by house bands with some excellent rock song renditions.

As to be expected the cruise was over quickly as we cruised into Sydney harbour at dawn. As an avid festival goer, I must say this was just a fabulous music and holiday experience, you should join us for the next P&O BLUES CRUISE sailing on the Pacific Pearl from Sydney and out to sea for 3 nights on Friday 4 November!
